Prayer for mental health & loneliness

Love is the answer

Whether you are feeling sad, alone, or mourning, there is a way you can feel loved, included and happy in your life. Why? Because God loves you. And you are never separated from Him. This is God's promise to you and the basis for mental health and healing from illness.

I have loved you, saith the Lord.

Malachi 1:2

Mary Baker Eddy, Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, would understand how you feel. She was ill for many years, her husband died, and her second marriage ended in divorce. Her only child was taken from her, she lost friends and was forced to move from her home many times. But through her faith and study of the Bible, she went from illness and homelessness to enduring health and prosperity.

How did she do this? By realizing that God loved her, even when it seemed humans had abandoned her. Her understanding of her relationship to God, as one of His perfect children, uplifted her thoughts and gave her hope for a better life.

Love has an amazing way of healing and making us feel whole.

Love enriches the nature, enlarging, purifying, and elevating it.

Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 57:23–24

God’s promises assure us that He will not forget us. “Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.”  Isaiah 49:14, 15

And it works both ways. We must love God back, and in this way we will love and bless others. Jesus said, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.”  Luke 10:2

Mrs. Eddy found the recipe for all healing in the Bible and shared her sense of God’s Love with her community and the world. She knew that health and inclusiveness were natural and normal because God sees us as perfect and made in His image. And as His reflection, we can’t be separated from Him.

“It is ignorance and false belief, based on a material sense of things, which hide spiritual beauty and goodness. Understanding this, Paul said: "Neither death, nor life, . . . nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God.’ This is the doctrine of Christian Science: that divine Love cannot be deprived of its manifestation, or object; that joy cannot be turned into sorrow, for sorrow is not the master of joy; that good can never produce evil; that matter can never produce mind nor life result in death. The perfect man — governed by God, his perfect Principle — is sinless and eternal.

Harmony is produced by its Principle, is controlled by it and abides with it. Divine Principle is the Life of man. Man's happiness is not, therefore, at the disposal of physical sense. Truth is not contaminated by error."

Harmony in man is as beautiful as in music, and discord is unnatural, unreal.

Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 304:3–21

God's love is unconditional

God loves all of His children, no matter who you are or the circumstances. His love is unconditional. God loves you and that is the most fulfilling kind of love. God cannot disappoint you. He is always there for you and will never leave you.

If you are sad or lonely and feel isolated and alone, know that Christian Scientists are praying for you and all mankind daily. “Thy kingdom come;' let the reign of divine Truth, Life, and Love be established in me, and rule out of me all sin; and may Thy Word enrich the affections of all mankind, and govern them!” Church Manual of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, p.41
